National Parks and Wildlife Service koala habitat restoration

Koala habitat
The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is currently undertaking koala habitat restoration projects from the Border Ranges in the north to the Snowy River and Bega regions in the south.
On-ground works have been assisted through funding of over $3.7 million through the NSW Koala Strategy, and over $2.7 million through NPWS in-kind and other funding sources.
Of the current 38 projects being implemented, 21 projects have 4-year plans and associated funding agreements in place.
Locations that support and/or are adjacent to the most suitable koala habitats have been given priority for funding. The work being undertaken includes:
- planting out previously cleared and/or degraded lands with a mix of local native species, including species preferred by koalas
- controlling high-priority weeds that restrict the movement of koalas, such as lantana, blackberry and vine weeds
- ecological or cultural hazard reduction burns to improve the diversity and suitability of habitats for koalas and many other threatened species
- fencing to protect plantings and reduce impacts of grazing and feral animals.

- Ngambaa Nature Reserve and Yarriabini National Park
- Yarri Barri National Park
- Goolawah National Park and Limeburners Creek Nature Reserve
- Lake Innes Nature Reserve and Innes Ruins historic site
- Booti Booti National Park and Myall Lakes National Park
- Heathcote National Park
- Dharawal National Park
- Macquarie Pass National Park
- Upper Nepean State Recreation Area
- Wollondilly Nature Reserve and Guula Ngurra National Park
- Bangadilly National Park
- Coornartha National Park and Undoo Nature Reserve
- Dangelong Nature Reserve
- Murrah Flora Reserve.
